Today is my grandson’s 11th birthday. I greeted him with a cheery Happy Birthday! this morning and asked him if it was going to be a special day for him. He replied, “It’s just another day for me.” His response broke my heart because I couldn’t believe that an 11 year old would even have ‘just another day.’ If that is how he feels at age 11, what do his future days hold for him?
My grandson’s response immediately triggered a thought in my mind, which I believe was God’s message for me today, so I wanted to share it with you: As Christians, alive in Christ, should we ever have just another day? Did Jesus ever say, “This is just another day for me?” Actually, that vision kind of makes me chuckle. From all we read in Scripture it is hard to fathom Jesus having just another day, isn’t it? He always seems so busy as we read through Scripture.
I suppose as human beings we all feel at times that this is just another day. And…if we don’t do something special on our birthdays, when someone asks us “What did you do for your birthday?” we often respond, “Not much…it was just another day.” So, let this be a reminder to all of us that living in Christ should never be “just another day.” There is always something for us to do…for Him…that can make our day–everyday–something special.
Go and be a blessing today!
